How long does the beta last, i have heard after 2 weeks the program wants new key, also heard that the key expires after 6 months. What is the truth? i dont want to go through the trouble of installing it just to have to redo everything in 2 weeks.

Beta time
It is good until June 1, 2007. No new key after 2 weeks... :)

With a valid key and succesfull activation you won't need to do a thing until may/june 2007. But since the Beta 2 is so buggy I'd install the Release Candidate rather soon.

Somewhere, once, a "release candidate" is a build of software is a potential candidate for rtm (release to manufacturing) - i.e. complete and ready to go and perhaps the version that will ship. Perhaps another version will be built and it too is a candidate and the company just needs to decide which one.
Now a-days, though, people use the term to indicate an "advanced beta" i.e. here, Microsoft uses the term "release candidate" as a way of saying "very advanced beta". See link Andreas provided.

Lasts 14 days without activation, and 365 days - expires round about 1st June 2007.
